Location:

Activities:
Everyone is invited to join us for a half-day of fishing and fellowship on the coastal waters of Jacksonville, FL. We will meet at the Jim King Boat Ramp the morning of October 18th. The local bait shop is called Brown’s Creek Fish Camp, which is on the South side of the road as you head east along Heckscher Drive (they open at 6:oo am. Please be there early, so you are not late to our am meetup!) Everyone will return to the ramp at 11:30 am, where we will hear a short message from Juan Carranza while enjoying some catered BBQ. We have generous volunteers providing the boats, so all you need to bring is your own lucky fishing pole and gear. Tips are not allowed, but help with fuel expenses and ice is appreciated. You may want to bring snacks and drinks for yourself on the boat. While fathers and sons stay together, we try to pair anglers with people that they do not know to help make new relationships… so don’t be surprised by this.
Prizes:
The most successful fishing team will earn a small reward.
Meals:
Please bring snacks and drinks to have on the boat. Lunch will be served at the Jim King Boat Ramp.
Rules:
- Please be on time and plan to stay until around 1:00 pm.
- No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
- Alcohol will not be allowed on boats, but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
- Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
- Have a good time.
What to bring:
- Valid Florida saltwater fishing license
- Drinks and snacks for the boat.
- Parents – Please provide a life vest for all youth participants.
- Everyone should bring their own fishing tackle and gear for a morning of redfish, trout, and flounder fishing. Please don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle.
- If you want to keep fish, bring what is necessary to clean your own catch and take it home.
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
- Rain gear if necessary.
- A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.
Suggested tackle:
We will target redfish in the flooded grass, so plan to fish weedless rigs or flyfish some weedless flys. When the flood waters recede, expect to find speckled trout and flounder. Each fisherman should bring their own fishing rod and gear. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
