“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat… John 21:3

Purpose:

To build meaningful relationships with other outdoorsmen for the purpose of leading them to, or back to, Jesus Christ.

Date:

Saturday, July 16th from 6am until 12:30pm.

Registration:

Free!  Space is limited so register now.  We will prioritize opportunities for those who have not attended Blast & Cast events in the past.  Veteran Blast & Cast participants should find a way to volunteer and support the event.

Fishing:

We will have volunteers present along with their boats. Our volunteer boat owners are not licensed guides and are not being compensated for the trip. No tips are allowed, but please bring cash to chip in for your portion of gas, ice, and bait.  Each volunteer boat owner will be assigned a fishing party that is suitable to their boat and style of fishing. While we keep fathers and sons together, usually you will be fishing with people you don’t know. This is done purposefully so please don’t be surprised. Please be flexible in your style of fishing and plan to follow the lead of the boat owner you are assigned to.  Essentially, treat this like a fishing trip with a friend… this is NOT a guided trip.

Party assignments will be announced after the morning devotion.

Meals:

Please bring snacks and drinks to bring on the boat.  We will be having an optional lunch at O’Neals at 12:30pm after everyone is off the water.

Rules:

  1. No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
  2. Alcohol will not be allowed on boats but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
  3. Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
  4. Have a good time.

What to bring:

  • Valid Texas saltwater fishing license
  • Everyone should bring their own fishing gear.  Don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle
  • Cash for boat gas, ice, or any live bait you would like to use
  • Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
  • Filet knife and Ziploc bags – plan to clean your own fish please.
  • A cooler to bring fish home
  • A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.

Suggested tackle:

Plan to fish for trout, redfish, and flounder. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monfilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
