“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat… John 21:3
Purpose:
To reach men with the gospel of Jesus Christ and build relationships that support the discipleship of these men.
Date:
Friday, May 5th from 6:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Location:
Horseshoe Bend Marina across from Liverpool Ice House (7301 County Rd 203A, Liverpool, TX 77577) – CLICK HERE for map.
Registration:
Free! Space is limited so register now. We will prioritize opportunities for those who have not attended Blast & Cast events in the past. Veteran Blast & Cast participants should find a way to volunteer and support the event.
Minimum Age: 18 years and up, youth allowed with an adult, only one youth per adult (i.e. father and son).
Fishing:
We will have volunteers present along with their boats. Our volunteer boat owners are not licensed guides and are not being compensated for the trip. No tips are allowed, but please bring cash to chip in for your portion of gas, ice, and bait. Each volunteer boat owner will be assigned a fishing party that is suitable to their boat and style of fishing. While we keep fathers and sons together, usually you will be fishing with people you don’t know. This is done purposefully so please don’t be surprised. Please be flexible in your style of fishing and plan to follow the lead of the boat owner you are assigned to. Essentially, treat this like a fishing trip with a friend… this is NOT a guided trip.
Participants will arrive at 6:00 am to be checked in and paired up.
Will Ballard, New Hope Youth Pastor will provide opening remarks and prayer at 6:30 am.
Important Note: There is a $10 fee to launch boats and there is limited dock space. Boats must be launched after the devotional.
Following the message, groups will be dismissed to participate in the fishing (7:00 am).
Following the fishing event, everyone will be invited to lunch at a local restaurant.
Meals:
Lunch at a local restaurant – (1:00 pm).
Rules:
- No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
- Alcohol will not be allowed on boats but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
- Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
- Have a good time.
What to bring:
- Valid Texas saltwater fishing license
- Everyone should bring their own fishing poles and associated gear. Don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle
- Adults accompanied by a youth angler must bring a properly-sized life jacket for the youth angler
- Cash for boat gas, ice, or any live bait you would like to use – Note: Live bait is available at Lute’s Marine on the water.
- Boat snacks, and drinks, (no alcohol on the boats, please).
- Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
- Filet knife and Ziploc bags – plan to clean your own fish, please.
- A cooler to bring fish home
- A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.
Suggested tackle:
Plan to fish for redfish, trout, and flounder. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
