“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
Purpose:
Join the Coastal Texas Chapter of Blast & Cast Men’s Ministries and Cornerstone Church for a one-day family event of surf-fishing and fun at Surfside Jetty County Park
Date: Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 6:00 am until 1:00 pm.
Guest Speaker: Richard Schneberger, Sr. Pastor of Cornerstone Church
Registration: Free! Lunch included.
Age limitations/restrictions: This is a family event with no age restrictions. All minor children must attend with a parent or guardian. Please observe water safety rules.
Location: We will be meeting near the first free entrance to Surfside Beach. From the town of Surfside, head northeast on Bluewater Hwy and enter the beach at the first free entrance. Look for the blue beach entrance sign. Once on the beach, look for the Blast & Cast flags marking our group. For ease of finding the group, expect to receive a pin via group text the week of the event.
Fishing/Activities:
Fishing is optional… fun is mandatory. Families encouraged to attend and enjoy the day on the beach whether they fish or not. Non-fishing family members are welcome to join us later in the morning. We will enjoy a half-day of surf-fishing and a beach day followed by a free lunch and a time of devotion and fellowship at Surfside Park in Freeport, TX. Stay and spend the day on the beach, or head home after lunch.
Meals:
Free lunch will be provided by Cornerstone Church at the Surfside Jetty County Park Pavillion at 12:00 pm.
Rules:
- No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
- No drunkenness.
- Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
- Have a good time.
What to bring:
- If fishing, valid Texas saltwater fishing license, fishing poles, and any necessary equipment.
- Beach accessories for the family; water safety gear for children.
- Snacks and drinks.
- A cooler to bring fish home.
- A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time.
Suggested tackle:
Plan to fish for anything that can bite. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action (6-7ft long); surf-rods (8-10ft long), with either spinning or bait-casting reels (12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient). If you choose to target larger fish, appropriate gear will be needed. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
